By the end of Key Stage 3,all students will have:

KS3 Careers Commitment

By the end of Key Stage 3, all students will have:

  • A better understanding that STEM subjects support entry to a broad range of careers.
  •  A better understanding of the importance of succeeding in maths and English.
  •  A better understanding of 14-19 opportunities for progression
  • A better understanding of post-16 options
  • A better understanding of their strengths and areas for development, and support to evaluate how these might inform future choices in learning and work.
  • Experienced a meaningful encounter annually from Year 7 with local employers to gain a better understanding of work, employment and skills which are valued in the workplace.
  • Used online careers resources to research information about local market information and growth industry opportunities
  • Been offered a 1:1 careers interview with independent Careers Adviser
  • Been offered 2 encounters with a provider of technical education or apprenticeships (mandatory for students to attend before 28th February in Year 9)

To achieve these outcomes all students will progress through a differentiated programme of teacher-led PSHE/Careers learning in addition to the following activities:

Y7 and 8: Group sessions and presentations which help students to start thinking about their future including what subjects and qualifications are needed for which careers.

Autumn Term: Offered Community Careers Event, Adviza:  Options at 14/16: Skills and strengths

Spring Term: Offered Innovation Centre Visit, Health Reach Session, Adviza: Green jobs,  Digital wellbeing

Summer Term: Offered Visit to a working farm, visit to a fire station, Adviza:  Options 14/16:  Teamwork/Communications Workshop 

 

Y9: Regular group sessions and presentations to inspire students to reach their full potential and stimulate interest in post 16 options and the world of work.

Autumn Term: Offered Community Careers Event, Offered Adviza STEM + Future Careers workshop

Spring Term: Offered Trading Standards presentations. Science Week Activities. Finances Workshop.  

Summer Term: Health Reach presentation.  Living Rainforest visit.  Distribution Centre visit

Adviza: Careers Pilot profile development session.

 

Y7/8 /9: Offered minimum of a visit per year to a local employer.

Individual careers appointments - available three times per year or by request to Careers Leader.
