The staff team at iCollege play a huge part in supporting the careers development of our young people.

Top 5 ways you may wish to support our learners:

· Discuss their interests and hobbies they participate in outside of school

· Acknowledge strengths and things they enjoy in school

· Encourage students to do research using Useful Websites Page

· Look out for work experience or apprenticeship opportunities for our young people

· Feedback information to Careers Leader or your Lead Teacher who will pass on.

Useful websites

Areas of interest may then be discussed during careers lessons and extended upon to form the basis of possible careers. You may also wish to discuss your career journey, particularly if it was challenging or unsure at times.

Where possible, please avoid the question ‘what do you want to do when you leave school?’ This can be quite overwhelming for young people; they may not have fully formed ideas and the response will be based on perhaps the careers they have experienced to date linked to friends or family. Our aim is to help young people to extend on the range of careers they are considering through a series of impartial conversations.

Linking Curriculum to Careers

The iCollege Careers Team are supported by Denise Firth our Enterprise Co-ordinator, from The Careers and Enterprise Company, and Andy Newberry our Enterprise Advisor who is Group Operations Director, Westcoast Ltd. Denise and Andy have both offered to come into iCollege to deliver work-based presentations to support young people and their understanding of how curriculum topics link with future careers. Please contact Careers Leader with details of specific topics and preferred dates; requests will be proposed in termly Careers meetings

We are keen to encourage our learners to conduct individual careers research. All Secondary Provisions have a dedicated laptop, careers resources and an allocated time for learners to access careers.

Adviza Careers Advice and Guidance will be visiting all learning provisions, if you know of a learner, who would like more information; please make us aware so we can allocate a 1:1 as a priority. Please contact Ali Haynes, Careers Leader: ahaynes@icollege.org.uk
