  • Who We Are

    Art

    Ethos, Intentions & Objectives

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up”– Pablo Picasso

    Ethos

The vision of the Art department is to develop learners’ understanding and love of art, craft and design while supporting the whole iCollege mission.

The Art department believes there is an artist, designer or craftsperson inside each of us and encourages all learners to engage with and enjoy our art curriculum. The department appreciates and encourages this to be at different levels – not only promoting growth of skills, but also mental wellness and ‘rehabilitation’ from potentially adverse experiences in their lives. Skills learnt in Art are transferrable across the wider curriculum and are applicable in life and work – Art will help ensure the success of our young people as the move on to the next step in their lives.

    Intentions

All learners are given the opportunity to access a broad, balanced art, craft and design curriculum, which makes a relevant and strong contribution to their education as a whole. In addition to specific skills relating to Art, students will develop learning skills, literacy and numeracy and be exposed to rich SMSC content.

    • To develop the art, craft and design knowledge of students
    • To expose students to, and give them time and space to deepen their knowledge and confidence with, a wide range of media, materials, techniques and processes
    • To develop an approach towards problem solving
    • To develop literacy to enable effective communication of Art
    • To develop independent learning
    • To develop an awareness of the wider impact of Art on society and culture

    Objectives
