  • Who We Are

    Business studies

Our Business Studies curriculum is designed to develop real-world, enterprising and employability skills for tomorrow’s leaders. We prepare students for an ever-changing and challenging business environment by combining knowledge with practical application. We believe that values and enthusiasm are as important as skills and knowledge, so our programme engages learners through real business organisations, current business news and practical scenarios.

We provide an environment where students can become entrepreneurial, independent learners, confident presenters and strong team players with a sound understanding of the world in which they live. Lessons are designed to inspire and challenge students to value diversity, think creatively, take risks and develop financial awareness.

Our Business Studies programme aims to:

    • Deliver an engaging curriculum that teaches and embeds knowledge and skills.
    • Design schemes of work that promote progression and include assessments that allow students to demonstrate learning.
    • Tailor lessons to students’ interests, needs and abilities, using creative and innovative approaches that challenge and motivate.
    • Provide professional, friendly and inspiring teaching that builds positive relationships and creates welcoming learning environments.
    • Celebrate students’ achievements verbally, in books and through displays.
    • Offer opportunities for students to take ownership of their learning through choice, flexibility and varied approaches to resources and assessment.
    • Equip students with a sound understanding of business concepts, terminology and objectives, and the integrated nature of business activity.
    • Apply knowledge to contemporary business issues and different types and sizes of businesses in local, national and global contexts.
    • Develop commercial awareness and creativity, enabling students to demonstrate business acumen and make informed decisions.
    • Investigate and analyse real business opportunities and issues, constructing well-argued, evidence-based conclusions.
    • Build quantitative skills relevant to business, including interpreting and using data effectively.

    Rationale

Business Studies is a dynamic subject that prepares students for all aspects of working life. Whatever career path they choose, understanding how organisations operate and how decisions are made is essential. Successful business leaders transform lives — from James Dyson revolutionising home technology to Steve Jobs connecting the world through Apple products.

Our curriculum reflects the evolving nature of business and its impact on society. Students explore real business issues, consider practical applications and adopt a holistic approach to understanding how businesses work. They study contemporary developments such as digital technology, sustainability and business ethics, helping them reflect critically on decision-making and community impact.

We aim to develop resilient learners who can recover from mistakes, solve problems effectively and think creatively. Lessons are designed to be engaging and challenging, offering breadth and depth to inspire students to become successful business professionals or even the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Business Studies provides transferable skills for further education, careers and everyday life, including financial literacy, decision-making and strategic thinking. Through the Edexcel GCSE Business course, students engage with real-world contexts and develop knowledge that can be applied across industries. Our ultimate goal is to ensure students leave with the confidence, skills and understanding to succeed in the next stage of their education or career.
