Curriculum @ Pod Plus
Learners follow the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum differentiated to meet their individual needs, delivered via a primary teaching model. High engagement and low demand learning opportunities are planned to ensure that learner’s interest and curiosity are sparked whilst ensuring they are able to maintain the self-regulation required to be effective learners. The curriculum is divided into 6 strands with equal emphasis placed upon ‘core’ learning and a carefully structured PSHE curriculum to ensure positive outcomes.
Throughout their time at Pod Plus learners will be actively involved in their future planning and Year 9 transition. The wishes and aspirations of the learner will be paramount during this person-centred approach.
The secondary (KS3) curriculum is designed to meet the needs of a range of pupils from 11-13 with an EHCP for SEMH and complex needs. The curriculum needs to be highly engaging, flexible and open to personalisation.
It is important that the curriculum is broad and covers a range of KS3 subjects at appropriate depth to allow the pupils to gain the knowledge and skills needed to study for GCSE in Key stage 4 if appropriate.
It is equally important that lower than average literacy levels are not a barrier to subject knowledge and skill acquisition for pupils.
