Curriculum Intention Statement
At our school, we are deeply committed to enabling every child and young person to be the best that they can be. Our curriculum is broad, balanced, ambitious, and inspiring, rooted in the National Curriculum and thoughtfully adapted at both whole-school and subject levels to meet the diverse needs of our learners. Our approach focuses on fostering academic achievement whilst supporting our children and young people to overcome their social, emotional, and behavioural barriers to learning. Learning is systematically structured to promote the key skills necessary for success, and is enriched through a wide range of off-site learning opportunities and visits. These experiences help children and young people make meaningful connections between the classroom and the wider world, promoting real-world understanding and beginning to prepare them for their next stage in education, training or employment.
We aim to provide a curriculum that:
-
offers the skills, knowledge and understanding to ensure academic success, encourage creativity, and foster resilience
-
is of a high quality and carefully designed to ensure continuity, coherence and progression as well as offering a range of academic and vocational learning opportunities
-
is flexible and inclusive, using our deep understanding of our young people — their strengths, interests, and needs to ensure that every learner is given the right environment to thrive
-
promotes spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, preparing all young people for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of life in modern Britain
-
delivers the most up-to-date information, advice and guidance on post-16 opportunities, enabling informed choices and successful transitions
Through our curriculum, learners will know more, remember more, and do more. They will learn:
-
a broad range of powerful knowledge across key National Curriculum subjects
-
how to read, write and communicate confidently
-
the principles of fluency in mathematics
-
to respect and celebrate individuality and diversity
-
how to understand and regulate their emotions
-
how to recognise risks, and identify benefit and harm
-
about different career pathways and the skills, personal characteristics and knowledge required to be successful
